Administration assures sugarcane dues will be cleared soon

Muzaffarnagar: Farmers agitating under banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union called off their agitation on Tuesday after the district authorities assured to clear the pending sugarcane dues.

Informing about this Rakesh Tikait, BKU national spokesperson, said that the after district administration assured us to take steps to ensure cane payment, therefore union decided to end the agitation.

According to officials, two sugar mills in the district have paid Rs 24 crore to the farmers so far. Titawi sugar mill cleared Rs 20 crore and Rohana mill paid Rs 4 crore to farmers. The officials have stated that they will ensure that the mills clear cane dues soon.

BKU had threatened to launch non-cooperation movement over the bad policies of Uttar Pradesh government against the farmers.
