Ambala: Farmers yet to receive 100 per cent cane payment

Ambala: Ambala’s sugarcane farmers are yet to receive 100 per cent cane payments from sugar mills for the ongoing and previous seasons. The delay in it has led farmers to divert their cane to other sugar mills and crushers.

The Naraingarh sugar mill had crushed 50 lakh quintals of sugarcane last season and was expected to crush the same amount, but is likely to reach around 45 lakh quintals as farmers are diverting their cane to other mills.

Farm organisation believes that the factionalism among them has failed to build pressure on the mills to clear cane dues in time. As per the law, the mills should clear the dues of the farmers within 14 days of purchasing the cane.
