Andhra Pradesh: Gulab cyclone causes crop loss of Rs 100 crore

Vijayawada: According to the media report, the Gulab cyclone that recently ravaged Andhra Pradesh has led to crop loss including sugarcane and others grown over 1.02 lakh acres worth nearly Rs 100 crore.

The preliminary assessment suggests that the crops grown over 1.82 lakh acres in Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, West Godavari, Krishna, East Godavari and Srikakulam districts were submerged due to heavy rains accompanied by the cyclone.

The water from the agricultural fields is receding as there is no rainfall in the last few days and farmers are taking up agricultural activities like sowing new crops and saving the existing crops, said government officials.

The government officials have initiated the assessment of the crop loss due to the cyclone by visiting the fields and it may take several days to complete the work.
