Area under cane cultivation in UP increases by 8 lakh hectares

Lucknow: The UP government has stated that the area under cane cultivation has been increased by around 8 lakh hectares, reports The Times of India.

This would provide an additional income of Rs 34,656 per hectare to farmers with a yield of 9.93 tons per hectare. According to the government spokesperson it is around Rs 9,887 crore on a total sugarcane area of 28.53 lakh hectares.

The promotion of rich and efficient agricultural practices by the government has helped in increasing the farmers’ income, said the spokesperson.

The government has stated that in the past six years, it has cleared more than Rs 2 lakh crores to cane farmers.

The use of the trench method for sowing cane has helped in increasing yield due to the increase in the accumulation of cane and yield. Farmers are getting additional income of Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 per hectare due to 15-20% more yield and early cane ripening, he said.
