Assam government announces sugar at subsidized rate

Guwahati, Assam: BJP led state government has announced various subsidies to the poor ahead of the upcoming state budget. Addressing a rally, Himanta Biswa Sarma, State Finance minister announced that the rice will be offered free to the poor and the pulses and sugar will be available at subsidized rates.

The state will provide rice to the two crore people at Rs 1/kg under the flagship scheme ‘Affordable Nutrition and Nourishment Assistance (ANNA) Yojna’. “The government will announce several other schemes in the budget that will benefit all the people,” he said.

Also, the Assam government is planning to give each family of tea garden labourers two kg of sugar free of cost per month from March-end. The decision has been taken by the government to help them to give up the habit of salt intake along with tea which is injurious for health.
