Association demands two-fold hike in wages of sugarcane field workers

Aurangabad, Maharashtra: Maharashtra Rajya Ustod Vahatuk Kamgar & Mukadam Sanghatan has demanded that the sugarcane field labourers should get double wages for this crushing season along with the improved working condition for them at the workplace. The organization fighting for rights of cane labourers cited that the harvester machines deployed for cane cutting are paid more than the cane labourers.

Sushila Morale, secretary of the Sanghatana, said, “We have demanded doubling of labour charges for cutting sugarcane. the state government and sugar mills should jointly contribute to our health insurance premium.”

She stated that the association has put these demands at the meeting held on September 10. It was by state government officials, sugar factory representatives and associations of sugarcane field workers.
