Bangladesh aims to increase sugar production

Joypurhat: Bangladesh is facing sugar shortage, therefore sugar mills in the country working towards increasing sugar production in the country.

Farmers in the vicinity of Joypurhat Sugar Mill, one of the largest sugar-producing companies, will be cultivating cane in 6000 acres of area for the new season. The employees of the mill are visiting the remote areas and encouraging farmers to take up cane cultivation to achieve this target.

The current cane-crushing season started on September 1. The mill has set a target of producing 2,118 tonnes of sugar from 6000 acres of land.
Akhlasur Rahman, Managing Director of the sugar mill said, the price of sugarcane has been fixed at Taka 4,450 per tonne at the mill gate and Taka 4,440 per tonne for outside buying centres.

The government is assisting the mill by providing a loan facility of Taka 190,00,000 to encourage farmers to increase the area under cane cultivation.
