The 70th cane crushing season of the Cooperative Sugar Mill at Bhali Anandpur village began on Tuesday, with several dignitaries placing sugarcane on the mill’s conveyor chain to mark the formal start of operations, reports The Tribune.
Before the inauguration, rituals were performed to pray for a smooth crushing season. Cooperation Minister Dr. Arvind Sharma joined the event virtually.
In his address, Sharma said farmers treat the start of the crushing season as a festival. He noted that both the Central and State governments have taken steps to support farmers. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi often praises the role of Haryana’s soldiers, farmers, and wrestlers, and that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has raised the sugarcane price to Rs 415 per quintal for the early variety.
Sharma also said that, after discussions with the Chief Minister, payments for farmers’ crop dues were released. He pointed out that the sugar mill exported 99 lakh units of electricity last year, earning Rs 7.35 crore. He instructed the managing director to stay in regular touch with farmers and ensure their concerns were addressed. He further directed that good-quality food be served to farmers at the Atal Kisan Mazdoor Canteen.
Former Cooperation Minister Manish Kumar Grover and the mill’s managing director, Shweta Suhag, were also present at the event.
