Bhartiya Kisan Union demands hike in sugarcane price

Muzaffarnagar: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) agitated outside the collectorate of several West UP districts on Monday demanding a hike in sugarcane price and clearance of pending cane dues, reports The Times of India.

The farmers want the government to hike the sugarcane rate to Rs 450 per quintal. Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson of BKU said that the government should declare the increase in the sugarcane rate to Rs 450 per quintal for this season and the mills should clear all the pending cane dues of the farmers.

“We want the government to amend the rule of clearing cane payment within 14 days of sending their crop to the mill for crushing and bring the sugarcane payment under the digital system,” he added.
