Bihar: Administration asks sugar mills to clear cane dues

Patna: Sugarcane department has asked the sugar mills in Bihar to clear all the pending cane dues of sugarcane farmers by June 15. An order was issued at the review meeting held in the sugarcane industry department.
The mills have cleared 86% of the cane dues by May 15.

The sugar mills have been asked to take loans from the banks to clear the pending cane dues of the farmers.

According to the news report published in The Times of India, the virtual meeting was attended by cane industry minister Pramod Kumar, department’s principal secretary N Vijayalaxmi, joint cane commissioner Jay Prakash Narayan Singh, other officials and representatives of the sugar mills.

The sugar mills have stated that the pending dues in Bihar are less in percentage as compared to neighbouring state Uttar Pradesh.
