Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked the authorities to continue the transportation subsidy to the sugarcane farmers from Sitamarhi district for carrying cane from fields to the sugar mills than the closed Riga mill for the 2021-22 crushing season.
He asked the officials to continue transportation subsidy like the previous year to avoid any inconvenience to the sugarcane farmers in the district to transport their cane to mills.
Last year the Riga sugar mill in the district stopped operations due to some reasons and the government provided assistance to the cane farmers through transport subsidy to transport their cane to other sugar mills, said sugarcane industries minister Pramod Kumar.
“We have asked three sugar mills located in Gopalganj and East Champaran to purchase sugarcane from Sitamarhi farmers’,” said a senior official from the department.
