Bihar: Minister directs authorities to clear cane dues by month-end

Patna: Sugar mills should clear the pending cane dues for the season 2020-21 by month-end, said Bihar’s Sugar cane industries minister Pramod Kumar on Thursday.

N Sarvana Kumar, sugar cane industries department secretary told the minister during a virtual review meeting that the Harinagar, Lauria, Sugauli and Narkatiaganj sugar mills have cleared 100 per cent of cane dues of the farmers.

The minister asked the officials to ensure that the other mills clear the pending cane dues by July 30.

According to the news report published in The Times of India, minister also asked the officials to initiate the assessment work of the damage caused by the floods to the sugarcane crops in the region. Sarvana asked the managers of the sugar mills to prepare a report of crop damage in their region with the assistance of the respective district officials and submit it immediately for further action.
