Biker meets with an accident involving sugarcane trailer

Kolhapur: A 50-year old man was killed in a road accident after he hit a tractor-trailer laden with Sugarcane parked on the road in Apachewadi, 40 km south of Kolhapur. According to the reports, this is the third incident involving Sugarcane tractor this season. 

S T Alvares, the Regional Transport Officer said, “We are waiting for the police investigation to find out the exact cause of an accident.”

In a similar accident happened on January 24, two people were killed when an Omni they were travelling rammed into sugarcane carrying tractor in Apachewadi area. Earlier, RTO had launched awareness drive to use reflectors by the cane carrying vehicles. 

RTO had earlier warned the sugarcane farmers and the sugar mills that the strict action will be taken if they are found overloading the sugarcane in their transport vehicles and operating without reflectors. 

Accident of sugarcane loaded vehicles is on the rise; therefore, traffic police is taking all measures to low dow the number of accidents. The RTO had issued directives to the sugar mills to ensure that the cane carrying vehicles are equipped with reflectors. Reflective tapes are essential to identify vehicles during foggy nights as many cane carrying vehicles operate during night time.
