BKU threatens to launch non-cooperation movement over pending sugarcane dues

Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh: Farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) have threatened to launch non-cooperation movement over the bad policies of Uttar Pradesh government against the farmers.

Naresh Tikait, BKU chief has stated that the UP government has failed to clear the sugarcane dues of the farmers.

The farmers gheraoed the office of district magistrate on Monday evening. Addressing the gathering he said, “We will not pay our electricity bills if the state government fails to fulfil our demands.”

Sugarcane farmers claim due to non-payment of cane dues, they are facing financial difficulty. Whereas sugar mills say due to surplus sugar and the depressed prices they are suffering from financial scarcity, which led to the default in cane payment.

Sugarcane farmers are angry over non-payment of cane dues, due to which the government along with the sugar mills are under pressure.
