Bombay Sugar Merchants Association urges consumers not to panic about sugar shortage

Pune: The Federation of Trade Association of Pune (FTAP) has decided to keep markets in Pune shut for few days to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus.

Fattehchand Ranka, president, FTAP said, “All the shops including jewellery, hosiery, timber, stainless steel computers, cycles and automobiles from Pune will remain closed. However, essential commodities like food grains and vegetables and medicines will remain open.”

Bombay Sugar Merchants Association has urged consumers not to panic about sugar. Mukesh Kuvediya, secretary, Bombay Sugar Merchants Association said, “The supply of sugar from Sangli, Kolhapur and other parts of Maharashtra sugar mills is sufficient and adequate. There is no shortage of sugar in Mumbai.”

According to the World Health Organization, at least 7,529 people globally have died from COVID-19, as the illness is officially known, while more than 180,000 infections have been confirmed in at least 150 countries and territories,
