Brazil’s ability to produce and sell hybrid cars that can run on 100% ethanol is huge asset for its auto industry: VP

The ability to manufacture and sell hybrid cars running on 100% ethanol is a big asset for the auto industry in Brazil as the global economies are demanding decarbonization to tackle climate change, said Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, reports Auto Hindustan Times.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the opening event of a factory by Chinese carmaker Great Wall Motor Co Ltd that will produce hybrid cars, including a flex-fuel pickup called Poer.

“Ethanol- a clean, renewable energy- and electricity is brought together here. This is a better alternative to protect the environment,” he said.

Most cars in Brazil, one of the largest ethanol producers in the world, run on 100% biofuel made from sugarcane or corn.
