Bright prospects for Vietnamese sugarcane

Hanoi, Vietnamese: The implementation of the Asean Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) will provide new opportunities for sugarcane farmers to generate more profit, says an expert.

According to the news report published in Thestar.com, top agricultural expert and Professor V Tong Xuan, said, “It will benefit the sugarcane farmers and increase the profit of Vietnam businesses. Coordination between the State, scientists, farmers and entrepreneurs is important for maximizing the gain.

The state is taking steps to improve the sugarcane output by funding the scientists to research in this sector to provide high yielding varieties and to focus on the scientific cultivation to improve the productivity of sugarcane. As many as 35,000 farmers and their families earn a livelihood by cultivating sugarcane which is grown over 270,000ha area and produces 1.3-1.5 million tonnes per year.
