BSF thwarts sugar smuggling attempt

Shillong: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, along with Meghalaya state police, seized over 33,000 kilograms of sugar in a joint operation conducted over the past two days, the BSF’s Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters stated on Monday, reported The Times of India.

A statement issued by the Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters of the BSF on Monday stated that the seized sugar was intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The operation resulted in the successful confiscation of a substantial quantity of sugar, which had been stockpiled in an abandoned house near the Rongra bordering area.

In a separate operation, a mobile check post party of BSF intercepted a truck near Baghmara on Monday, suspecting it of carrying a significant amount of sugar intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The BSF reported that upon interception, the driver and co-driver fled the scene under the cover of darkness. The confiscated bags of sugar have been handed over to the local police post.
