Sri Lanka: CAA seizes 4,100 tonnes sugar from warehouse

Raiding a warehouse located in Kerawalapitiya, Wattala, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) seized over 4,100 metric tonnes of sugar that was stored in the warehouse.

According to State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, the warehouse owners have been asked to submit the documents related to the registration of the warehouse to find out whether they have legal right to store sugar in the warehouse.

We will initiate legal action against them if there is any discrepancy in the documents, he said.

Taking note that many importers have hidden the unregistered sugar in warehouses, the CAA has launched an operation to raid warehouses and verify the stocks. The raids will continue further in the Western Province, he said.
