Cane cutting operations affected over bison sightings

Kolhapur: Sugarcane cutting has been affected after the appearance of bison in the farms around Kolhapur city, report The Times of India.

The cane cutting in villages including Vadange, Shiye, Chikhli and Peth Vadgaon have been halted as the bison was spotted at these places.

According to the news report published in The Times of India, a farmer from Vadange village said, “I spotted a bison passing our village crossing the Panchganga River. I asked all the cane harvesters to stop cane cutting and go back to their homes. We are worried after the death of a youth in Bhuyewadi last week.”

Almost all the farms have been vacated by the farmers as well as labourers fearing bison and the cane cutting activities have been put on hold.

The Forest Department has appealed to the farmers to avoid going to fields during nighttime and not react in panic after spotting bison. The department has asked farmers to dial 1926 if they spot the animal.
