Sugarcane harvester killed in road mishap in Maharashtra

Manmad: A cane harvester was killed, and seven others were injured when a truck carrying them overturned and plunged into 70 feet deep gorge at Chandeshwari ghat near Kasari in Nandgaon taluka on Friday night. The injured were immediately shifted to a Malegaon private hospital and are out of danger, said police. The incident has been registered with Nandgaon police station.

According to police, the truck was carrying cane harvesters from Dheku in Nandgaon taluka to Kadwa sugar mill in Dindori taluka for cane harvesting.

The deceased has been identified as Pralhad Chavan (30). Total of six men and two women were travelling in a truck along with 15 cattle. Three bulls and one cow were also killed in the mishap. The truck driver is absconding since the accident. 

Recently seven cane harvesters lost their lives after and 15 others were injured in a road accident when a pick-up van fell off a bridge on Bori river near Vinchur village on Dhule-Solapur national highway at the wee hours on Saturday.
