CBI arrests GST superintendent for accepting bribe

Meerut: On one hand, Government is taking strict actions against the GST violators, and on the other hand GST officials themselves are indulging in the corruption activities. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a superintendent in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut for allegedly taking Rs 3 lakh bribe.

According to the reports, he was accepting a bribe for clearing a pending case. The accused has been identified as Vikas Kumar Singh. He was posted at the GST department, Meerut.

CBI officials said that he was caught for allegedly receiving the bribe. Teams from the Ghaziabad unit carried out searches at the GST office in Meerut on Friday morning.

He was produced in a special CBI court, where Judge sent him for 14 days judicial custody.

Recently, the search operation was conducted across 15 states at nearly 350 locations by joint teams of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DRI-DGGI) against violating exporters and suppliers. This was the biggest ever joint-operation by DRI-DGGI teams targeted exporters who were claiming a refund of IGST fraudulently.
