Center issues additional Export Release Orders of sugar for season 2021-22

To maintain domestic availability & price stability of sugar in the country during sugar season 2021-22 (October-September), Government of India regulated sugar exports w.e.f June 1, 2022. The Government had decided to allow export of sugar up to 100 lakh tonnes during the sugar season 2021-22. The Department of Food & Public Distribution (DFPD) issued Export Release Orders (EROs) of 10 LMT and 8 LMT to exporters and sugar mills respectively in June 2022. Today, 5th August 2022 DFPD issued ERO of 7.77 LMT

The industry had been seeking additional quantities for exports of sugar because of unexported quantities mills would not only have to face financial losses but also end up in litigation for non-fulfillment of export contracts and losses to forex hedging.
