Center-South Brazil H2 May sugar production down 12.74 per cent

Data from Brazilian sugarcane industry group UNICA dated June 10 shows that the Center South region of Brazil has witnessed a dip in sugar output by 12.74% on the year in the second half of May to 2.31 million mt

As many as 10 analysts surveyed by S&P Global Commodity had expected the sugar output to be 2.17 million mt.

Around 248 sugar mills were operating in the region on June 1, one less than in the same period during the preceding season. It is expected that three more mills will start operations in H1 June.

As per UNICA, mills in CS Brazil had in H2 May crushed 43.69 million mt of sugarcane which was up 0.04% year on year. For H2 May, sugar share was 43.16% compared with 46.22% last year.

According to UNICA, the ethanol production in CS Brazil was 2.031 billion liters in H2 May which was up by 0.51% from 2.021 billion liters last year.
