Centre ready to support ailing sugar mills in Maharashtra

Pune: Ailing sugar mills in Maharashtra will be able to restart crushing season following the assistance from Centre, said state deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar after meeting Union minister Amit Shah, reports the Hindu Business Line.

Pawar stated that the draft proposal in this regard should be prepared by the sugar mill director board or the administrators and should be submitted to the government to ensure restarting of ailing sugar mills.

During his recent visit to Pune, Shah said that there are huge funds available under various schemes for cooperative societies that can be used for setting up distilleries. He also stated that the sugar mills in the state can avail of the loan facility for this.

Pawar said that Shah has stated that every sugar mill in the state should produce ethanol.
