Chhattisgarh: Investors show interest in ethanol production in state

Ambikapur: The state of Chhattisgarh is set to witness a significant increase in ethanol production with 34 private companies proposing to invest in ethanol manufacturing units. This investment is expected to generate 4,765 direct jobs and 3-4 times more indirect employment opportunities, reported Nai Dunia.

One company has already commenced ethanol production, with six plants under construction.  Companies from Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Jaipur reaching agreements for ethanol plant setups in Chhattisgarh. Several other private companies in Chhattisgarh have also shown interest in establishing ethanol plants.

These proposed plants are spread across various districts in Chhattisgarh. Some companies have also expressed interest in producing by-products alongside ethanol. Additionally, there are plans for electricity generation through low-capacity captive power plants. A unit in the Kawardha district has already begun ethanol production, and these units are deemed crucial for the economic prosperity of farmers. Most of these units are expected to commence production by 2025.

Highest number of proposed ethanol plants in Bemetara district, followed by Surguja, Kabirdham, Bilaspur, Bastar, Raigarh, Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, Raipur, Durg, Janjgir-Champa, and Mungeli districts.
