Coronavirus crisis: Sugarfed to give 20 lakh kg sugar to needy in Punjab

Chandigarh: Coming forward to assist people during lockdown due to Coronavirus crisis, Sugarfed has decided to supply 20 lakh kg sugar to the poor. The company has already supplied 50,000 kg sugar, said Cooperation Minister S Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa in a statement.

Randhawa said, “As per the directions of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the arrangements have been made to provide ration to poor and needy to ensure that people at homes do not face any problems and maintain safety during a crisis of novel coronavirus,”.

“The department of Food Civil Supply and Sugarfed will be providing 20 lakh packets of sugar of 1 kg each to the families and so far 50,000 packets have been sent on Sunday. The remaining packets will be supplied soon,” he further added.

“We are also keeping a check on the black marketing to ensure the smooth supply of essential commodities,” he said.
