Coronavirus impact: Due to lime shortage sugar mills may stop operations in Bijnor

Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh: Many industries are hit by Coronavirus, and the sugar industry is one of them. The shortage of lime from Bhilwara in Rajasthan has worried the sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh. The lime is a key ingredient for processing cane juice into sugar and mills may stop crushing if they don’t receive it on time.

According to the media reports, Migrant workforce has left the Bhilwara district due to coronavirus, resulting in shutting down of quarries there.

Ramakant Pandey, Bijnor DM has requested his Rajasthan counterpart to resume supply.

Yashpal Singh, Bijnor district cane officer said, “Six out of nine mills in distrct have little stock of lime and they are facing problems to procure lime from Rajasthan due to nationwide lockdown. We are doing our best to get the lime and hope that the issue will be resolved.”
