India’s COVID-19 tally stands at 21,700
With an increase of 1,229 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of cases reached 21,700, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.
The tally is inclusive of 16,689 active cases, 4,325 patients have been cured/discharged and migrated, while 686 patients who have died due to the deadly virus. According to the ministry’s data, Maharashtra is on the top of the list with most COVID-19 cases, 5,652 cases of which 789 patients have recovered and 269 patients succumbing to coronavirus.
Gujarat and Delhi are second and third on the list respectively with Gujarat having 2407 cases of which 179 patients have recovered and 103 deaths. Meanwhile, in Delhi, the tally stands at 2248 cases of which 724 patients have recovered and 49 patients have died from COVID-19. Rajasthan’s tally stands at 1,890 cases with 230 patients cured while 27 deaths have been reported as of Thursday.

Madhya Pradesh has 1695 cases of which 148 patients have recovered and 81 deaths reported. Tamil Nadu, on the other hand, stands with 1629 cases of which 662 patients have recovered and 18 have died due to the deadly virus. Goa has seven cases reported of which all seven patients have recovered from the coronavirus.

19:44 IST: One more tests positive for COVID-19 in Uttarakhand
One more person has tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand to 47, the health bulletin by the state government said. “One more person has tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the State stands at 47. A total of 24 people have been discharged after treatment,” reads the health bulletin. According to the bulletin, so far 4,473 samples have been sent for testing and the result of 265 samples are awaited.”

19:25 IST: 4 more test positive for COVID-19 in Jharkhand, state count touches 53
Four more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Ranchi, said Nitin Madan Kulkarni, Jharkhand’s Health Secretary, on Thursday. “Four more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Ranchi. Total positive cases in the State rise to 53,” said Kulkarni.

18:44 IST: 10 new COVID-19 cases reported from Kerala
10 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Kerala on Thursday. “With an additional 10 new COVID-19 cases reported today, the total positive cases in the state stand at 447. 129 of them are active cases,” Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. 324 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the southern state.

COVID-19: Indonesia to deploy 175000 security personnel to enforce travel ban during Eid
17:35 IST: Indonesia will deploy 175,000 military personnel, police and public order officers to enforce travel restrictions for the upcoming Eid holiday to prevent the spread of coronavirus. National Police Spokesman High Commissioner Asep Adi Saputra said that the security operation will run from April 24 until May 31, to enforce a ban on traveling home for Eid, CNN reported. Indonesia recently banned the annual Ramadan movement of city dwellers to their hometowns as coronavirus cases crossed the 7,000 mark.

15:32 IST: Spain’s COVID-19 toll grows by 440 to over 22,000
Spain’s COVID-19 death toll has increased by 440 to 22,157 over the past 24 hours, the country’s Health Ministry said on Thursday.
The country has confirmed 213,024 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the outbreak, of which 4,635 have been recorded over the past 24 hours. As the number of recoveries has increased by 3,355 to 89,250, over 101,000 cases remain active.

15:23 IST:80 more COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh, state count reaches 893
80 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours, with this the total number of coronavirus cases in the state has reached 893, informed state Health Department on Thursday. Out of the total COVID-19 cases in the state, 141 people have been discharged/cured while 27 have lost their lives to the deadly virus. Notably, Kurnool has recorded the highest number of COVID-cases with 234 people. This district was followed by Guntur (195 cases), Krishna (88 cases), Chittoor (73 cases) and Nellore (67 cases).

14:55 IST: 49 more COVID-19 cases in Rajasthan, state tally reaches 1,937
49 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Rajasthan, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 1,937, according to the state Health Department on Thursday.
While 27 COVID-19 patients have died so far, 407 have recovered and 134 patients have been discharged from hospitals. Jaipur continues to remain to the worst-affected part of the state with 737 cases.

12:39 IST: 49 samples test negative for COVID-19 in Patiala, Punjab
KBS Sidhu, Special Chief Secretary, Punjab on Thursday said all 49 samples taken at the Safabadi Gate in Patiala City have tested negative for coronavirus.
“49 RT-PCR test samples taken at Safabadi Gate area, Patiala City yesterday, ALL came out negative,” Sidhu said in a tweet. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 251 positive cases in Punjab which include 49 discharged or cured and 16 deaths.

12:36 IST: Total COVID-19 positive cases reach 5649 in Maharashtra
With 431 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases has reached 5,649 in Maharashtra, said Medical Education and Drug Department and Public Health Department. As per the last update at 10:00 am today, with 18 new deaths recorded due to COVID-19, the number of total deaths in the State stands at 269. The mortality rate is 4.76 among positive patients. Maharashtra remains the worst-hit so far.

12:32 IST: Bangladesh extends shutdown till May 5 as coronavirus crisis surge
Bangladesh has extended its nationwide lockdown till May 5 as part of measures to stem the spread of coronavirus pandemic, local media reported on Thursday. “Holidays will be extended till May 5 from April 26. The government will issue a gazette in this regard tomorrow [Thursday],” Bangladesh News reported after citing State Minister for Public Administration Ministry Farhad Hossain as saying. The minister, however, added that May 6 is also a government holiday on account of the religious rituals of the country’s minority Buddhist community, or Buddhist Full Moon holiday. To ensure social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the government had declared a general holiday on March 26 for 10 days.

12:05 IST: One more COVID-19 case in Assam, state tally reaches 35
A resident of Bilasipara, Dhubri has tested positive for COVID-19, said Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday. With this, the total number of COVID-19 patients in the state now stands at 35, he added. Sarma took to Twitter and informed that the man has a history of being in touch with another patient, who was a part of the Athgaon Majid congregation in Guwahati.

11:49 IST: Out of 890 samples, 24 test COVID-19 positive: KGMU Lucknow
A total of 24 samples, out of 890 tested on Wednesday, have tested positive for COVID-19, according to King George’s Medical University, Lucknow.
According to information available on the website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as of 11:30 AM on Thursday, 1449 cases have been reported from the state so far with 173 cured/migrated/discharged and 21 deaths.

10:43 IST: One more staffer at Delhi State Cancer Institute tests COVID-19 positive
One more COVID-19 case has been reported from Delhi State Cancer Institute on Thursday. The total number of cases linked to the hospital now stands at 30. The new coronavirus patient is staff with the housekeeping department of the hospital. Before him, 29 people, including nurses and doctors, at the hospital have contracted the infection.

10:38 IST: Punjab’s Moga district becomes COVID-19 free
After four people recovered from COVID-19 in Moga, the district has become coronavirus free, informed KBS Sidhu, Special Chief Secretary, Punjab on Thursday.
“There were 4 Corona positive cases who were kept in isolation for 14 days. Now, they have been tested twice and are now negative. District Moga is COVID-free now,” the official tweeted. “They are all TJ’s and belong to Maharashtra–14 in all. They will be kept in Deaddiction and Rehabilitation Centre at Village Janer, which is closed now. This one is totally away from habitation. No one will object. Once the Inter-State borders open, they will be sent back,” he said in another tweet.

10:09 IST: New labs allocated for all 22 districts of Punjab to test COVID-19 samples
New laboratories have been allocated in order to test the COVID-19 samples, for all the 22 districts in Punjab, said Punjab’s Special Chief Secretary KBS Sidhu on Thursday.
KBS Sidhu took to Twitter and posted a letter issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) with the subject stating–Revised distribution of laboratory testing of corona samples in the designated virology laboratories. The relocation of the districts have been done as IMTECH Chandigarh has started testing for COVID-19 for the State of Punjab, the letter read. The 22 districts include SAS Nagar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Mansa, Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Moga, Pathankot, Ropar among other States. So far, Punjab has reported 251 COVID-19 positive cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

09:46 IST: 47 new COVID-19 cases in Rajasthan, state tally reaches 1,935
Rajasthan’s total cases of coronavirus on Thursday climbed to 1,935, with 47 new cases reported in the state, said the State Health Department.
Of all the fresh cases reported in the state– 20 cases were reported in Jodhpur, 12 in Jaipur, 10 in Nagaur, two each in Hanumangarh and Kota, one in Ajmer. According to the morning bulletin of the state health department, the total number of positive cases in the state includes 27 deaths and 344 recovered.
