Covid-19: Sugar mills in Philippines asked to set up emergency protocols

Manila: The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) officials have urged the sugarcane planers’ groups and sugar mills to impose emergency protocols due to the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

In a statement, SRA Board Member Planters Representative Dino Yulo said, “We should take preventive measures to avoid any steps that may lead to the spread of the virus, especially when we are at peak of the milling season.”

“The local government can impose mandatory quarantine and can even shut down the mill,” he said.

According to the media reports, the board appealed after reports that a sugar mill in Luzon was locked down for possible contamination.
