Cyclone Nivar: Farmers demand compensation for damaged crops

Trichy, Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu farmers are demanding the government to announce compensation for the crops damage caused due to recent cyclone Nivar. The central committee members are likely to assess the crop damage in the state.

The excessive rain in the region has damaged the sugarcane and other crops grown in the state. Farmers claim that the standing crop in the inundated fields may look healthy but there will be significant yield loss, which may reflect only at the time of harvest and the expert committee should consider this fact.

Farmers from Kollidam in Nagapattinam district said that the sugarcane crop is also affected and it is the major crop in Cuddalore. Sugarcane will lose its sugar content. So, the government should announce compensation to all the crops.
