Demand for sugar seen low in spite of panic buying witnessed by retailers

Though the nationwide lockdown made the sale of sugar stocks plunge with closure of bulk buyers, hotels, restaurants, cafeterias and food joints etc.According to sources, grocery stores, retailers and supermarkets have seen consumers active in panic buying of other items but have witnessed lack of demand for sugar at the retail counter since the last two to three days.

Market-men are optimistic that sugar stocks in the pipeline would have been sold in the wholesale and retail market in the last couple of weeks and therefore, fresh buying would take place in the coming days.

With the natural demand of summers and an increase in intake of confectionary items made at home, fresh buying of sugar at retail counters is also likely to be witnessed.
