Divisional Commissioner Sunil Kendrekar pays surprise visit to sugarcane farmers

Aurangabad: Aurangabad’s Divisional Commissioner Sunil Kendrekar paid a surprise visit in Paithan Taluka, where he interacted with the sugarcane farmers and reviewed the sugarcane crops. He mainly had a conversation with sugarcane growers in the district and spoke on the sugarcane water management method currently used by farmers and other issues related to agriculture.

Sugarcane farmers of all four villages were present on occasion, including Agriculture Officer Rameshwar Bhute, Divisional Agricultural Officer Vishal Salve, Ramnath Karle, Agriculture Supervisor Vasant Katabane, Kishore Padale, Yashwant Chaudhary, Raju Gawade.

Recently, Kendrekar advocated that the state government should ban the cultivation of sugarcane and production of sugar in drought-prone regions like Marathwada. Following which he received flak from sugarcane farmers and sugar mills from the region. He claimed that if sugarcane cultivation is banned, then water, which is being used by only 1.51 lakh sugarcane farmers, can benefit nearly 22 lakh farmers.
