Hassan: Hemavati Cooperative Sugar Factory witnessed a blast on Sunday in which the dust catcher unit suddenly collapsed bringing the mill operations to a standstill. The farmers are now worried about crushing operations after an accident.
The employees ran away from the spot after the dust catcher attached to the boiler exploded and fell off. The fire broke out and the fire tenders were deployed on the spot that extinguished the blaze. The dust catcher was installed later on Saturday.
Chamundeshwari Sugars, a private company runs the factory and had scheduled cane crushing from March 29. A Delhi-based company was hired to install the dust catcher.
After the mishap, Shravanabelgola MLA C N Balakrishna and MLC M A Gopalaswamy visited the spot. Later speaking to reporters, Balakrishna said that the executive of the company has been asked to re-install the unit and make factory operational soon.
