Egypt extends sugar export ban amid supply concerns

Egypt announced on Monday an extension of the ban on sugar exports for an additional three months, with exceptions made for surplus quantities exceeding domestic demand, as stated by the cabinet.

A gap in sugar supplies has led to rising prices and shortages of unsubsidised sugar at some shops in Egypt.

Earlier this year, the cabinet had sanctioned the importation of one million metric tons of sugar to address the shortfall.
