Ethanol policy will benefit sugar mills in Maharashtra: Devendra Fadnavis

Pune: Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly and former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday that the sugar industry is performing well due to incentives and packages announced by the Centre.

Addressing the press conference, he said, “Centre has announced the ethanol policy, which will benefit the sugar mills in Maharashtra. Also, the formation of a cooperation ministry by the Union government would largely benefit the state.”

Since the government started promoting ethanol production, many companies are showing interest to invest in the sector.

Recently government had advanced the ethanol blending target from 2030 to 2025. The roadmap for ethanol blending in India 2020-25 was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5 this year on the occasion of World Environment Day.

The government believes ethanol distillation capacities in the country would be more than doubled by 2025 and India would be able to achieve a 20 per cent blending target.
