Ethanol production from bamboo: India, Finland to work together

India and Finland are planning to work on sustainability in the biofuel sector, said Kimmo Siira, Counselor (Trade and Investments) at the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi, reports Live Mint.

Finland is looking for investment in biofuels and renewable energy in India. We are working on setting up a bio-refinery in Assam that will be producing ethanol using bamboo, said Siira. The plant will be set up in a joint venture of Numaligarh Oil Refinery Ltd and Chempolis, a Finnish company having the technology to convert bamboo to ethanol, he said.

“The model will be replicated elsewhere,” he added.
