Ethanol production from sugarcane in Uttar Pradesh to commence from next crushing season

Lucknow: Ethanol production from sugarcane in Uttar Pradesh will start from the next cane crushing season.

According to the news report published in dailypioneer.com, the sugar mills operating in the public sector namely Pipraich from Gorakhpur and Balrampur sugar mill will start ethanol production directly from sugarcane. The UP government had decided in October last year to produce ethanol directly from sugarcane and a pilot project was started at the Pipraich sugar mill.

Emphasis on ethanol production will help the mills to increase biofuel output that will directly benefit the sugarcane farmers in the state.

Addressing a press conference, Sugar industry minister Suresh Rana said, “The sugar mills have cleared the 100% cane dues for 2019-20 season and 85% of the total dues for the 2020-21 season. He said against the demand of Rs 33,014 crore, the sugar mills had so far paid Rs 28,015 crore to the farmers for the 2020-21 season.”
