Ethiopia eyes privatisation of eight sugar mills

Addis Ababa: The Ethiopian government invited investors to submit their expression of interest(EOI) to participate in the tendering process of eight sugar mills.

The government has committed to ensuring efficient use of national resources by moving to a competitive market structure through privatization and auctioning sugar mills is a part of it.

The government has initiated the process to privatize the sugar sector by inviting investors to participate in the tendering process. The eight sugar plants owned by the government would be privatized to increase the role of private players in this sector.

This is aimed to improve the sugar industry and bringing in competitiveness would help to meet domestic demand and save foreign exchange used to import sugar.

According to the media report, , the Government of Ethiopia is now inviting both international and domestic investors to participate in the tendering of 8 state-owned sugar enterprises.
