Farmer leader Raju Shetti asks sugar mills not to start crushing season till decision on sugarcane rates in sugarcane convention

Kolhapur: Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) leader Raju Shetty has asked sugar mills in the state not to commence the operations until the decision on sugarcane price is taken in 19th sugarcane convention (Uus Parishad).

The conference is likely to take place at Jaysingpur soon. Addressing the members of the organization during a meeting at his residence, Shetty said, “We are determined to organize the conference at any condition. We have already asked the cane farmers to send an application directly to sugar director office demanding one-time payment of FRP and not in instalments.”

“The sugar mills should not start cane crushing before we declare the rate for cane per tonne at 19th sugarcane convention,” he further added.

The sugarcane convention organized by SSS is one of the major annual events for the cane farmers where they decide the future course of action and the rates to be given by sugar mills.
