Chandigarh: Farmers have been advised by the Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) to sow wheat by November 15 to get maximum yield, reports Hindustan Times.
Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor of the PAU asked the farmers to sow wheat crops by November 15 which will help them in maximizing wheat yields.
Being an important rabi crop, wheat is cultivated on about 35 lakh hectares in the state.
“Last year there was an unfavourable climate for wheat crops in March due to a sudden rise in minimum and maximum temperatures. This led to early maturity and loss of yield by around 10%,” he said.
“This season we expect that once farmers sow their crops by November 15, it will be easy to protect them during the high temperature period of February and March. The farmers can opt for varieties like PBW 826, PBW 824, PBW 766 (Sunehri) and PBW 725 of wheat that is climate resilient,” he added.
