Farmers closed sugar mill for pending cane dues

Paliyakalan: Sugarcane farmers stalled the operations at the Paliya sugar mill demanding pending cane dues, reports Amar Ujala.

The operations at the mill were stalled for more than three hours and farmers threatened to launch a hunger strike from January 2 if the mill fails to clear pending cane dues in time.

On Wednesday, farmers rushed to the mill and stopped cane weighing operations. The mill officials rushed to the spot and requested farmers to continue operations.

Government officials including SDM Kartikey Singh and Tehsildar Ashish Kumar Singh rushed to the spot and discussed the issue with farmers. Following these farmers handed over the memorandum of their demand to the SDM and gave a deadline of a week to the mill to clear the pending cane dues.
