Farmers continue protest demanding increase in sugarcane price

Mysuru: Farmers along with various labours’ outfits under the banner of Karnataka State Farmers’ Association protested outside DC office, Mandya on Wednesday demanding rise in sugarcane price, reports The Times of India.

Farmers are agitating for higher fair and remunerative prices (FRP) for sugarcane.

Angry farmers also set an effigy of chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on fire to show resentment over the government’s attitude towards farmers.
Badagalapura Nagendra, president of the farmers’ association said that the farmers want an FRP of Rs 4,500 per tonne for sugarcane.

The situation was tense for some time as farmers travelling in tractors and bullock carts were obstructed by police while entering the office of DC.

The city witnessed traffic jams as there were no alternate routes for motorists to move ahead and major roads in the city were blocked due to protests.
