Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Azad Kisan Union (AKU) have demanded from sugar mills pending cane arrears along with the interest.
Rajendra Singh, national president of the organization said, “Government has failed to increase the farmers’ income. Sugar mills should pay cane arrears as soon as possible.”
Organisation also demanded a hike in sugarcane price up to Rs 40 per quintal citing an increase in sugarcane production cost. Sugarcane farmers say that they are facing financial scarcity and are unable to meet their daily needs.
Sugar mills claim that due to low sugar sales they are facing a financial crisis and therefore they failed to cane dues.
