Farmers face days-long line just to get sugarcane weighed

Muzaffarnagar: The sugarcane farmers are worried about the delay in weighing their cane. The farmers have to spend hours outside the weighing scale waiting for their turn with their tractor and trolleys loaded with cane parked in the barren field.

“We are spending hours and days waiting for our turn to weigh the cane and send it to the mill for crushing which is barely two km away from the weighing scale. As the weighing delays, the weight of cane decreases which increases our losses,” said a farmer from the region.

According to the news agency PTI, sugar mill officials say much of the problem related to sugarcane farming in the region is due to the surplus yield of sugarcane and the limited production capacity of the mills.
