Farmers to protest outside sugar mills demanding hike in cane price

Barkheda (Pilibhit): If the government fails to announce a hike in the sugarcane purchase price by December 31, the farmers will launch protest outside the sugar mills in the state from January 2, said farmers leader, V M Singh, reports Amar Ujala.

Bajaj Hindustan Sugar mill started operations on November 10 and that day farmers demanded to clear pending cane dues. The mill authorities promised to clear payment by December 15. However, after the mill administration failed to clear dues, the farmers under the banner of Kisan Majdoor Sanghatan started protests on the site.

V M Singh met agitating farmers and warned the officials to clear pending cane dues immediately.
