Fiji: Sugar budget will increase

Fiji wants to uplift the sugar sector, therefore more funds will be utilised to achieve the same. According to the FSC permanent secretary Yogesh Karan, the Ministry of Sugar Industry will receive an increase in the upcoming 2020-2021 National Budget.

The government will closely monitor how the funds will be utilised for the development of the sugar sector. The ministry wants a weekly report of TCTS (tonnes cane to tonne sugar) from all the mills belonging to FSC (Fiji Sugar Corporation). Ministry aims to low down the TCTS ration to uplift the sugar industry.

Karan said, “The Ministry of Sugar has been given an increase in the budget so we would like to see better collaboration and government funds put to best use.”
