Food Ministry requests railways to make more rakes available for sugar dispatch

New Delhi: The lack of adequate facilities to transport sugar from mills to consumption destination is affected, therefore Food Ministry has requested the railways to make more rakes available on a priority basis.

The Ministry has written to the Railway Board chairman that sugar mills, particularly in Maharashtra and Karnataka, have not been able to sell and dispatch their sugar due to inadequate availability of Railways wagons due to which the lifting of sugar from the mills is getting adversely affected and they are reluctant to place fresh sale orders on the mills

DFPD has requested Railway to intervene in this matter and direct the concerned officers to make the availability of rakes on priority for the State of Maharashtra and Kamataka so that domestic dispatch and export of sugar goes on smoothly.
