Four sugar mills clear sugarcane dues

Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: According to the media report, four sugar mills from the Meerut have paid cane arrears around Rs 64.40 crore to the farmers.

District Sugarcane Officer Dushyant Kumar said, “On Wednesday, Mawana sugar mill cleared cane arrears around Rs 31.75 crore, Nanglamal sugar mill paid Rs 25.25 crore, Sakauti mill paid Rs 4.35 crore and Kinauni mill cleared Rs 3.05 crore to the cane farmers.”

Government is closely monitoring the daily cane payments by sugar mills. Also, instructions have been issued to take action against sugar mills if they fail to clear cane dues. Sugarcane farmers claim they are reeling under financial burden due to a delay in cane payments.

The lockdown imposed by the government to prevent the spread of Coronavirus pandemic has also affected many sugar mills across India. Mills were unable to sell the sugar amid lockdown, due to which sugar stocks piled up in godown. Lack of finance has also affected the mills to clear cane arrears.
