Ethiopian Sugar Industry Group announced that four sugar mills namely Fincha, Wonji Shewa, Omo Kuraz II, and Omo Kuraz III resumed operations.
The Tana Beles, Kesem, Arjo Dedesa, and Metehara sugar mills are under maintenance and would soon resume operations from March 2023, said the Group.
The Group had in October 2022 stated that all the sugar mills would start operations in mid-November 2022 after completing their maintenance work.
An international tender was issued by the Ethiopian government in August to transfer the ownership of eight sugar mills to private investors.
Sugar output in Ethiopia is around 3 to 4 million quintals per year and the annual consumption is around 5 to 6 million quintals.
